This website features details of Film Festivals, etc., organised by Festival Events Asbl (previously by G-Media sarl), with Geoff Thompson the festival director on each occasion. These include the The British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg (BIFFL, from 2010), the Nordic Film Festival (NFF, from 2014) and other mini-festivals such as the St Patrick’s Film Festival (in 2013, 2017, 2018 & 2021) and other special screenings.
Following on from the initial success of the British & Irish Film Season (later changed to British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg (BIFFL)), it was decided to extend the geographic scope of festival concept by also focusing on the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway & Iceland) in what became known as the Nordic Film Festival.
The festivals normally only feature films (and some short films) that have not been screened in Luxembourg before and the organisers try to include films from all countries/regions as well as covering many genres in the process. Most films are screened just once, with the BIFFL sometimes including a second screening of some films. In 2021, the festival also included online screenings in a hybrid festival, following the successful trial with the St Patrick's Film Festival 2021 which was online-only dueign the pandemic (in 2020 we ran a reduced-capacity in-person festival).
